S.A. #18-021 <br />Supervising Investigator: Date of Report: 07/02/2018 <br /> <br />Page 3 of 3 <br />the subject but had no effect. ROELOFS continued with the commands and then fired two rounds <br />from his handgun causing the subject to fall to the ground. <br />Other officers were arriving on scene as the shooting took place. Once the subject was <br />handcuffed, the officers rendered aid and requested Orange County Fire Authority paramedics. <br />Paramedics arrived, treated the subject for multiple gunshot wounds, and transported <br />him to Orange County Global Medical Center, in the city of Santa Ana. Despite hospital staff <br />efforts, the subject was pronounced deceased on July 2, 2018 at 0025 hours. <br />It was determined that Officer ROELOFS had his body-worn camera activated at the time <br />of the incident and that he fired his handgun twice, both rounds striking the subject. <br />Two metal bars were recovered at the scene. <br />After the briefing, the following assignments were made: <br /> PETE MONTEZ / ANDY GARCIA (SAPD) Case Investigators <br /> BRIAN SHELDON / GUS MOROYOQUI (SAPD) Scene <br /> CHRIS PETERSON / JIM GARCIA (SAPD) Officer Processing <br /> MIKE KENDRICK/ MATT MCLEOD (SAPD) Scene <br /> DAVE MELNYK / JUSTO CAPACETE Hospital <br />Refer to the packaged reports, documents and photographs for details of this <br />investigation. <br />
