Sweet #1805 <br />Involvement:Other <br />Agency:SAPD <br />Narrative: <br />On April 1, 2015 at approximately 1231 hours I conducted a digitally recorded interview with Santa Ana <br />Police Officer W. Sweet. The interview was in regards to an officer involved shooting which occurred <br />on March ll'h, 2015, in which Officer Sweet was involved in. <br />Also t in the interview was Investi ator R an Smith of the e Co District Attorn 's <br />Office and Officer Sweet's legal counsel Attorney at Law, Charles Goldwasser. <br />Officer Sweet stated on the day of the incident he was working uniformed patrol, driving a marked black <br />and white patrol vehicle. Officer Sweet also stated he was working with a partner, Reserve Officer <br />DeMarco. Office Sweet was the driver and Officer De Demarco was the passenger. <br />Officer Sweet monitored a radio call of a shooting call in the 800 block of south Cypress Avenue. <br />Officer Sweet responded from the area of 15' Street and Bristol Street. The suspect vehicle description <br />was given as a white Toyota pickup truck. While responding to the call he monitors another radio <br />broadcast from Officer David Garcia, stating he had located the suspect vehicle and was following north <br />on Main Street. Officer Sweet drove to Officer Garcia and followed behind him. The suspect vehicle <br />abruptly stopped in the northbound lanes of 400 S. Main Street, at which point a high risk vehicle stop <br />was conducted. <br />Officer Sweet stated that his position during the incident was at the driver's side of his vehicle, taking a <br />position behind his opened driver's door. Upon additional units arriving to the location, the officers <br />began to order the suspect out of the vehicle. During this tiine, Officer Sweet could clearly observe the <br />driver (suspect) was armed with a handgun. <br /> <br />Officer Garcia gave verbal commands in English and Spanish ordering the suspect to drop the gun.
