Person: Involvement:MENTIONED DOB: Age: Address/Resides: Address Note:Residence/Home Person: Involvement:MENTIONED DOB: Age: Identification:Driver License: Address/Resides: Address Note:Residence/Home Contact Info:Cell: Narrative: On Friday, April 7, 2023, at approximately 1930 hours, I was contacted by Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) Supervising Investigator STAN BERRY regarding the officer-involved shooting (OIS) of Marvin Ricardo Melgarejo by the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD). BERRY requested I respond to the area of 523 South Rosewood Avenue, in the City of Santa Ana, to assist in the investigation. I arrived on scene at approximately 2045 hours and met with personnel from the OCDA, SAPD, and the Orange County Crime Laboratory (OCCL), who were present to assist in the investigation. At approximately 2131 hours, SAPD Sergeant MATT WHARTON and Sergeant LUIS BARRAGAN provided a briefing of the known circumstances surrounding the OIS. Following the briefing, BERRY assigned me to conduct a canvass of the area for potential witnesses. South Rosewood Avenue is a north/south residential street lined with single family residences on both the west and east side of the street. I was partnered up with SAPD Detective GERRY RAYA and we concentrated our canvass efforts on the residences along the east side of South Rosewood Avenue. Detective RAYA is a certified Spanish translator for SAPD, and he assisted with Spanish translations during the interviews. I used a department-issued digital audio recorder to record all contacts made with the residents during the canvass, and I later uploaded the audio file of the recordings onto the OCDA Digital Evidence Management System (DEMS). The following is a record of the residences and individual(s) Detective Raya and I contacted at each residence along with a synopsis of their interviews and/or statements. Please refer to the audio recordings for additional information and/or details. I began my canvass at approximately 2220 hours and ended my canvass at 2345 hours. 531 SOUTH ROSEWOOD AVENUE, SANTA ANA, CA 92703 Detective RAYA spoke to GONZALEZ in Spanish and translated to me the following: rented a room at the residence with several other roommates, and he was inside the residence at the time of the shooting. At approximately 1650 hours, heard two volleys of gunfire, which he initially thought were fireworks.
