McKee #3467 located the driver/suspect on the east sidewalk. The suspect <br />ZDV IRXQG ZLWK DSSUR[LPDWHO\ IRXU DSSDUHQW JXQVKRW ZRXQGV WR WKH OHJV DQG OHIW VKRXOGHU 7KH GHWHFWLYHV <br />rendered medical aid, which included applying tourniquets to the suspect¶s extremities. <br />Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) Engine 75 personnel arrived on scene and transported the suspect to <br />2&*0& $W DSSUR[LPDWHO\  KRXUVUHSRUWHG WKH VXVSHFW ZDV LQ VWDEOH FRQGLWLRQ <br />A bullet core was located within the suspect¶V FORWKLQJ 6$3' )6 6 9D]TXH]  WRRN SKRWRJUDSKV RI <br />the suspect at the hospital. The suspect was subsequently identified as Marvin Ricardo Melgarejo, a <br />documented ³Bishop Street´gang member with the moniker of ³Saint.´Melgarejo had prior arrests for illegal <br />firearms possession. Ofcr. D. Bland #3753 and Ofcr. D. Taroy #3756 were standing by with Melgarejo in <br />room #420. <br />A female subsequently identified as Marisol Lopez arrived on scene and identified Melgarejo as her son. <br />Sgt. Barragan asked Ofcr. Cofer and Ofcr. Santaella for a public safety statement. Ofcr. Cofer provided the <br />same statement he provided Cpl. Speakman. Ofcr. Santaella reported he fired six times in a northbound <br />GLUHFWLRQ IURP 5RVHZRRG $YH DQG %LVKRS 6W 7KHUH ZDV RQH DUPHG RXWVWDQGLQJ VXVSHFW ZKR ZDV WKH <br />GULYHU RI WKH YHKLFOH 7KH LWHPV DW WKH VFHQH EHORQJHG WR 0HOJDUHMR 7KH\ FRQVLVWHG RI D FHOO SKRQH DQG <br />clothing cut from Melgarejo¶s person by paramedic personnel. <br />A male identified as residing at reported hearing five gunshots and then <br />REVHUYLQJ WKH VXVSHFW GLVFDUG DQ LWHP LQWR WKH EDFN\DUG RI D QHLJKERULQJ UHVLGHQFH 2IFU 0 0DULJQROL <br />#3858 searched the backyard of 1048 W. Myrtle St. and recovered a black baseball hat with a white ³B´ <br />ORJRSgt. Toth and I interviewed Melgarejo's treating Registered Nurse (RN), . SAPD <br />Professional Standards Sgt. J. Lopez #3029 was also present in the interview. The interview was <br />conducted in the fourth floor Medical Surgical Unit. Inv. Toth digitally recorded the interview. <br /> told us she had been a licensed California RN for nine years.
