On Friday, 4/7/23, at approximately 1842 hours, I responded to the area of Bishop St. and Rosewood Av., to
assist Officers who advised they had been involved in and officer involved shooting. Prior to my arrival,
Officers broadcasted that an armed suspect had fled from their location.
When I arrived on scene, I saw Officer C. Cofer #3626 and Officer R. Santaella #3717 were standing
outside of their patrol vehicle. Both Officers had their weapons drawn, pointed at a black GMC, CA
. Officer Cofer confirmed there had been an officer involved shooting. Additionally, I learned there
was a second subject that remained inside of the vehicle.
I subsequently began to coordinate a perimeter and assembling an arrest team to detain the remaining
occupant of the vehicle. The remaining passenger of the vehicle was taken into custody without incident.
The original suspect that fled from the vehicle was detained by responding Officers.
At the time of the incident, I had a civilian ride-along who was seated in the front passenger seat of the
police vehicle. Once the scene was rendered safe, the ride-along was transported back to the station,
concluding her ride-along. Prior to being transported back to the station I asked her if she had witnessed
anything of significance while at the stop, she stated she had not.
I remained on scene until approximately 0339 hours.
The above report is only a synopsis of this incident. For additional information please refer to my body worn
camera (BWC) footage. These recordings were later uploaded into the Santa Ana Police Department
evidence system.
Corporal E.
