Internal File# OIS 2013-06 <br />Inspector Gonzalez asked Officer Ayala what the backdrop was during the first volley <br />of rounds and he said multiple garages. Inspector Gonzalez asked Officer Ayala what <br />the lighting was like and he said daylight, but a little cloudy. Inspector Gonzalez asked <br />Officer Ayala if he was wearing any sunglasses or prescription glasses at the time of <br />the shooting. Officer Ayala said no, he wears contact lenses. Inspector Gonzalez <br />asked Officer Ayala if he was wearing his contact lenses at the time of the shooting <br />and he said yes. <br />Inspector Gonzalez asked Officer Ayala if he considered using any other option of <br />force after seeing what he saw at the time of the shooting. Officer Ayala said, "I had no <br />other options. I had to use deadly force. The threat was right in front of me and if I <br />hesitated , I'd probably be dead in the alley right now." <br />I asked Officer Ayala to estimate the amount of time it took for him to exit his vehicle, <br />upon arriving at the scene, to the time he was to the rear of Officer Esquivel's unit. <br />Officer Ayala said less than ten seconds. <br />I concluded the interview with Officer Ayala at approximately 1603 hours. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />I recommend that this administrative report be forward for review and classification. <br />Respectfully Submitted , <br />~~ <br />Professional Standards <br />Internal File# OIS 2013-06 <br />Page 21
