Santa Ana PD 2013-17495: Crime Report by #3023 Page 6 of 6 <br />Sergeant Craft provided a briefing concerning the Officer Involved Shooting and the status of the initial <br />investigation by Patrol Officers. Present were Detectives from the Santa Ana Police Department's <br />Homicide Unit, Gang Unit, Family Crimes Unit and Robbery Unit along with Investigators from the <br />Orange County District Attorney's Office Shooting Team and members from the Orange County Crime <br />Lab. <br />Sergeant Craft advised us the address of the Officer Involved Shooting is the east alley of 805 S. <br />Townsend Street. The public safety statement given by Officers Ayala and Esquivel was that they fired <br />10 -12 gunshots in a northern direction and western direction into garage # 1. Approximately twenty <br />cartridge casings were located in the east alley of 805 S. Townsend Street. Officer Esquivel fired in a <br />northern direction. Officer Ayala fired in a western direction into garage #1. <br />Sergeant Craft told us Officers Ayala and Esquivel were conducting routine patrol in the east alley of <br />805 S. Townsend Str eet. They came upon the suspect and were invo lved in an Officer Inv olved <br />Shooting. The suspect fe ll to the ground. A toy replica handgun was found four feet away from the <br />suspect's body and a "loaded" syringe was found to be on her person. Two additional unidentified <br />subjects fled the scene . A perimeter was set and the two unidentified subjects were not located. The two <br />unidentified subjects were determined to be witnesses. Additional Officers arrived to the scene of the <br />shooting. Garage #1 was determined to be associated with the shooting. Officers entered garage #1 and <br />discovered no one was inside of the garage. A bullet hole was located going through closed garage door <br />#0 (garage door #0 is on the north side of the driveway . Following the numerical pattern of the garage <br />doors, it should be garage # 10). Officers entered garage #0 to confirm no one was inside of the garage. <br />Officers discovered no one to be inside the garage. Orange County Fire Authority Engine #73 responded <br />to the scene and provided medical tr eatment. Care Ambulance #299 also responded and transported the <br />suspect to U.C.I. M edical Center. The suspect was pronounced deceased at 0855 hours at U.C.I. Medical <br />Center. <br />Sergeant Craft concluded the briefing and walked us through the crime scene. I wa s paired with <br />Inv estigator D . Fulcher from the Orange County District Attorney 's Offi ce. <br />1305 Hours <br />Forensic Sc ientist F. Burke from the Orange County Crime Lab began the colle ction and remo val of <br />items of evid ence within the crime scene.
