The syringe appeared to be
filled with blood.
MCALLISTER directed OCFA Firefighter BRIAN HSIEH and OCFA Engineer RICH AGUILAR
to begin Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). MCALLISTER placed GONZALEZ on a heart
monitor and noted that she had electrical activity with no pulse. MCALLISTER was unable to
establish an intravenous (IV) line in GONZALEZ’S arms because she had heavy scarring.
At approximately 0820 hours, GONZALEZ’S condition continued to deteriorate. She had
no electrical activity in her heart, excessive bleeding, no respirations, no heart sounds and her
eyes were fixed and dilated. Due to GONZALEZ’S condition, MCALLISTER was going to
pronounce her deceased, but Western Medical Center - Santa Ana (WMC-SA) directed OCFA
Captain BARYIC HUNTER to continue treating GONZALEZ and transport her to University of
California, Irvine - Medical Center (UCIMC), located at 101 The City Drive South, Orange. HSIEH
and AGUILAR resumed CPR, and MCALLISTER inserted an IV line in GONZALEZ’S left tibia.
MCALLISTER administered the following medications intravenously:
• Normal Saline
• Epinephrine
At approximately 0840 hours, Care Ambulance transported GONZALEZ and MCALLISTER
to UCIMC. During the transport, GONZALEZ did not regain electrical activity in her heart.
