Santa Ana PD 2013-17495: Supplemental Report by #2408 Page 3 o f 4 <br />1022 hours <br />Sgt. Esparza briefed the Homicide Unit on the circumstances surrounding the officer involved shooting. <br />He advised us that a female suspect had been shot by officers and was pronounced deceased at UCI <br />Medical Center , Orange . <br />1050 hours <br />I, along with the Homicide Unit, arrived at the scene and checked in with Ofc . Ribe iro , who vvas <br />maintaining a crime scene personnel log . <br />Sgt. Craft provided a briefing of the incident. Investigators from the Orange County District Attorney's <br />Office and Sgt. Claborn from the Santa Ana Police Department's Professional Standards Unit, were also <br />present. After the briefing, I walked the scene with OCDA Inv. Dawson, who was the handling case <br />agent for the Orange County District Attorney's Office. <br />I noticed an open, single-car garage just west of where the shooting occurred. This garage faced north <br />and was assigned to the residents at I also saw another closed single-car garage, <br />just north of the first garage, that had sustained bullet damage as a result of the shooting. This particular <br />garage was assigned to the residents at <br />OCDA Inv. Dawson and I first contacted the residents in A male, identifying himself as <br />, came to the door. I confirmed that the open garage belonged to him and t hat he was the <br />resident in charge of the apartment. I explained to that we wanted to search the open garage in <br />connection with our investigation. was cooperative and signed a "consent to search" form . <br />We then contacted confirmed she was the resident in charge of <br />this apartment and assigned the closed garage that had sustained the bullet damage. was <br />cooperative and signed a "consent to search" form for her garage in order for crime scene personnel to <br />gather any evidence from the shooting. <br />1210 hours <br />OCDA Inv. Dawson and I interviewed Sgt. Craft, the on-scene supervisor. The following is a brief <br />summary of our interview, which took place inside my assigned detective vehicle at the scene. Refer to <br />Inv. Dawson's audio recording for details. <br />Early this morning, Sgt. Craft was driving in the area of 400 N. Grand Avenue when he heard an officer <br />involved shooting occur in the area of 800 S. Townsend Street. He also heard that two other s ubjects <br />were involved in the incident but had fled. Sgt. Craft arrived at the east alley of 805 S. Townsend and <br />saw a subject lying on the ground in the middle of the alley. He walked up and discovere d the subject <br />on the ground was a woman. He also observed blood unde rneath her and a replica handgun several feet <br />west. Several officers were also present and two officers had their handguns pointed at the female. Sgt. <br />Craft directed officers to handcuff the female, who appeared to be lifeless. Officers then cleared the <br />open garage and nearby vehicles. <br />Sgt. Craft directed officers to various crime scene duties . He noticed the female resembled a murder <br />suspect out of Orange PD. Earlier in roll call, a flyer regarding murder suspect, Jessica Gonzalez, had <br />been distributed and Sgt. Craft believed the female was one ~the same. Paramedics arri ved and be gan <br />treating the female. They requested officers remove the handcuffs. Sgt. Craft directed Ofc.
