REQUEST FOR
COUNCIL ACTION
CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE:
OCTOBER 4, 2010
TITLE:
CONTRACT RENEWAL FOR
PAINT AND SUPPLIES
(SPEC. NO. 06 -125)
CITY MANAGER
RECOMMENDED ACTION
CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY:
APPROVED
❑ As Recommended
❑ As Amended
❑ Ordinance on 15t Reading
❑ Ordinance on 2 "d Reading
❑ Implementing Resolution
❑ Set Public Hearing For_
CONTINUED TO
FILE NUMBER
Renew the contract with Vista Paint Corporation for paint and supplies for a one -year period in an
annual amount not to exceed $80,000.
DISCUSSION
The Central Stores section of the Finance and Management Services Agency provides an
assortment of interior and exterior paints and supplies such as brushes, rollers, and masking tape
to departments throughout the City. The Public Works Agency (PWA) and Parks, Recreation and
Community Services ( PRCSA) utilize the majority of the paint and supplies purchased.
The PWA requires industrial and traffic paints for graffiti abatement, fire hydrants, curbs,
crosswalks, and lane markings; the PRCSA requires supplies to maintain various recreation
centers and park restrooms. The contract for paint and supplies is designed to provide quality
products at significant savings based on quantity pricing.
On October 2, 2006, the City Council awarded a contract to Vista Paint Corporation for a one -
year period with provision for four, one -year renewals. The vendor has performed satisfactorily
during the past contract period and has agreed to renew the contract; however, the vendor has
requested a three percent increase due to rising costs of raw materials. Staff verified the increase
is less than market indicators and the vendor continues to offer competitive prices. Staff
recommends the final renewal of the contract. Annual amounts are based upon past usage and
staff's projection for the next year.
22B -1
