Councilmember Sarmiento: <br />• Thanked Mayor for service and congratulated all on re-election. <br />• Thanked Executive Director of Parks and Recreation for changing date to <br />Sundays for free entrance to Santa Ana Zoo - a day that can be better <br />enjoyed by families. <br />• Wished all a Happy Thanksgiving <br />Councilmember Martinez: <br />• Thanked Executive Director Gerardo Mouet for leadership in obtaining a <br />$4.4 million grant for Willard Intermediate. <br />• Encouraged all to watch "Waiting for Superman" movie depicting children <br />and the social responsibility we all play in their education; urged the <br />school board to work together to make all schools better. <br />• Wished all a Happy Thanksgiving. <br />Councilmember Bustamante: <br />• Congratulated all on re-election, by overwhelming numbers. <br />• Noted that Bowers Museum will have exhibit starting December 18t" on <br />"Ben Franklin: In Search of a Better World". <br />• Happy Thanksgiving to all. <br />• State going through tough economic times; Governor made somber <br />speech at recent event regarding issue. <br />Councilmember Tinajero: <br />• Congratulated colleagues and members of the school board on re- <br />election — elected to be responsive; proud to serve the community. <br />• Asked staff to schedule tour of "Have Trunks Will Travel". <br />• Asked that City Manager look into ordinances restricting soccer kicking <br />and prohibition of clothes hangers, in light of green efforts. <br />• Happy Thanksgiving to all. <br />• Supports Councilmember Benavides comments on Dream Act. <br />Councilmember Benavides: <br />• Congratulated voters for coming out to vote and being engaged in the <br />democratic process. <br />• Asked that staff re -send letter to elected officials on City's support of the <br />"Dream Act". <br />• Wished all a Happy Thanksgiving. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Alvarez: <br />• Echoed sentiments on those re-elected; thanked voters for faith in <br />Council. <br />• Noted that more than 200 miles of City streets have been repaired; <br />condition of the City remarked by Senator Feinstein during a recent visit. <br />• Political signs still up in many areas; asked that City staff work with <br />candidates on this issue. <br />• As the holidays approach, encouraged all to shop in Santa Ana. <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 18 NOVEMBER 15, 2010 <br />
