Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award contracts for cellular phones, accessories, and airtime service for a three-year period in an <br />annual aggregate amount not to exceed $315,000 with the following vendors: <br />Sprint Nextel <br />Verizon <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City of Santa Ana utilizes cellular phones and airtime services for field personnel, and for <br />staff required to respond in immediate or emergency situations. Verizon Wireless provides a <br />variety of analog and digital cellular phones designed to meet the individual requirements of staff. <br />Sprint Nextel provides a dual system phone that functions both as a mobile phone and two-way <br />radio, providing a link between field personnel and office operations. Both vendors provide <br />various airtime plans to fit staff requirements. <br />The Santa Ana Ordinance No. NS-2312 authorizes the City to purchase against contracts from <br />any public agency utilizing a competitive bid process. The Western States Contracting Alliance <br />(WSCA) establishes California Multi-State Cooperative Agreements for Commodities, IT Goods <br />& Services, and Telecommunication Goods and Services. WSCA agreements are available to all <br />State of California governmental entities that expend public funds for the acquisition of both <br />goods and services. These contracts were awarded based upon a competitive bid process and <br />meets the City's requirements. Both Sprint Nextel and Verizon are value added re-seller's <br />offering WSCA pricing. <br />22A-1
