D. <br /> <br />D. <br />E. <br />Election. of officers. <br />Election. of officers. <br />Motion nominating Steve Oliver as Chairman to the Planning Commission. <br />MOTION: MacDowell <br />SECOND: Doughty <br />AYES: Nalle, Oliver, Doughty, Verino, MacDowell, and Solorio <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br />ABSTAIN: None <br />Motion nominating Lynnette Verino as Vice Chairman to the Planning Commission. <br />MOTION: MacDowell <br />AYES: Nalle, Oliver, Doughty, Verino <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br />ABSTAIN: None <br />SECOND: Solorio <br />MacDowell, and Solorio <br />Motion nominating John MacDowell as Pro Tem to the Planning Commission. <br />MOTION: Oliver <br />SECOND: Doughty <br />AYES: Nalle, Oliver, Doughty, Verino, MacDowell, and Solorio <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br />ABSTAIN: None <br />Discussion of extended stay motels. <br />Mr. Adams introduced representatives from Homestead Village. <br />(Kenneth Adams) <br />Mr. Paul Cabtry and Mr. Frante displayed a booklet to the Commission and discussed several <br />Homestead Village locations throughout California, the expectant clientele of Homestead Village <br />hotels, and the Harbor and Sunflower site that Homestead Village hoped to develop in Santa Ana. <br />Commissioner Oliver requested the applicant to provide data regarding the expectant hotel rates of <br />the facility. <br />Commissioner Verino expressed concern regarding the proposed Homestead location encouraging <br />clientele to patronize dining and other recreational activities outside the City of Santa Ana. <br />Commissioner Solorio expressed concern regarding the re-use of the Homestead Village facility if <br />the applicant chose to relocate and/or close the hotel. <br />F. Comments from the Executive Director. (Robyn Uptegraff) <br />The Executive Director was absent. <br />G. Comments from the Planning Manager. (Kenneth Adams) <br />Mr. Adams informed the Commission that the Homestead Village Corporation was interested in <br />constructing a Homestead Village at the corner of Harbor and Sunflower. In addition, he stated that <br />there were at least three compatties that were interested in various sites in Santa Ana and the <br />proposals would require discretionary approval; future discussions would be held with the <br />' Commission regarding extended stay motels; and staff would be developing a length of stay <br />ordinance.. <br />H. Comments from the Planning Commission. <br />Commissioner Verino informed staff that at a vacant Arco gas station located at Bristol and Edinger <br />had approximately 15 barrels and requested staff to ensure that the barrel did not contain any <br />contaminants. <br />I.
