EXTENSION OF THE MOTEL/HOTEL MORATORIUM ORDINANCE <br />Filed by the City of Santa Ana to extend the motel/hotel ordinance for one year. <br />PUBLICLY NOTICED: <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />April 12, 2000 <br />7:00 p.m. <br />Recommend that the City Council adopt an ordinance extending the motel/hotel moratorium for <br />one year. <br />Ms. Ann Ni, Associate Planner, presented the staff report and staff recommendation. <br />Mr. Thakor Patel stated that he had not received any prior notice regarding the proposed <br />ordinance. He expressed concern regarding assuming costs associated with the proposed <br />ordinance; that the ordinance should only be apply to new businesses; and he expressed if other <br />cities had similar ordinances, the City of Santa Ana should not follow. <br />Mr. Robert Boyajian, indicated that he had been in business for 40 years; that he had only <br />received notification for the present hearing and had not received any previous notices for the <br />previous hearings or discussions; and he requested a continuance in order to look into the <br />proposed ordinance further. <br />Mr. Victor Koshkerian commented that Mr. Boyajian's restaurant, DiVincci, is one of the best <br />restaurants in Santa Ana. <br />Ms. Robyn Uptegraff, Executive Director, indicated that the proposed ordinance would not affect <br />existing motels; however, it only affected the conversion of existing motel establishments into <br />long-term stay motels. In addition, she stated that the Planning Commission was making a <br />recommendation to the City Council regarding the ordinance and that there would be another <br />public hearing at City Council for final action in May 2000. <br />Motion to recommend that fhe City Counci! adopt an ordinance extending the moteUhotel <br />moratorium for one year. <br />MOTION: Richardson SECONDED: Cribb <br />AYES: <br />NOES: <br />ABSENT: <br />ABSTENTION: <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />Mondo, Doughty, Cribb, and Richardson <br />None <br />Verino and Nalle <br />None <br />1.
