PUBLIC COMMENTS <br />3. Public Comments (items not on the agenda) <br />Madam Chair Kings distributed a letter from Mr. Ben Grabiel to Caribou Industries <br />stating that he has found buyers for the historic structures on North Broadway. <br />Madam Chair Kings distributed copies of the comments from the National Trust on the <br />proposed Chapter 30 revisions. <br />Madam Chair Kings advised that a letter had been received from Caribou Industries <br />restating their willingness to donate the buildings on North Broadway. <br />There were no comments from the public. <br />STAFF AND COMMISSION COMMENTS <br />4. Comments from Staff <br />Ms. DeRosa <br />• Noted that the Chapter 30 Ad Hoc Committee meeting was scheduled for October 18 <br />at 4:30 p. m. <br />• Provided an update on the residence at 1610 E. Santa Clara. She advised that the <br />remodel had been approved prior to the standards for historically sensitive buildings <br />taking effect. These standards will provide appropriate guidelines for any future <br />remodeling of historically sensitive structures. <br />• Provided an update on 1225 N. French Street. She noted that based on historic <br />associations this structure will be eligible for placement on the Register. <br />5 Comments from Historic Resources Commission <br />' Commissioner Chinn <br />• Requested an update on his request regarding the Santora Building. Mr. Edwards <br />advised that the request had been forwarded to the Community Development <br />Agency and he would contact them and request a response. <br />• A re-enactment of the Daniels trial will be held at the Old Courthouse on October 19, <br />2002. <br />• Encouraged everyone to attend the Victorian Tea scheduled at the Discovery <br />Museum for October 29. <br />Commissioner Cor in <br />• Requested an update on One Broadway Plaza. Mr. Edwards advised that there are <br />still unresolved issues and the project has not been submitted for site plan review. <br />Commissioner Giles <br />• Thanked staff for reconsidering the request for placement on the Register by the <br />owner of 1225 N. French. <br />• Asked for an update on the United Auto Building. He has heard that work has been <br />going on inside. Ms. DeRosa advised that the property has been acquired by Mike <br />Harrah and that staff was unaware that there was any work being done. Ms. <br />DeRosa advised that staff would investigate. <br />• Requested an update on the status of having the windows of the YMCA boarded up. <br />Mr. Edwards noted that the request had been forwarded to the Community <br />Development Agency and he would follow up. <br />• Noted that there will be a tour of the Cemetery the last Saturday of October <br />organized by the Santa Ana Historical Society. <br />Commissioner O'Callaghan <br />• Complimented staff of the work that has been done on the web site. <br />• Noted that he attended the meeting with President Bush and that it had been a <br />memorable event. <br />• Noted that the Floral Park concert had been very enjoyable. <br />Commissioner Schaefer <br />• Noted that some of the buildings being categorized needed maintenance. <br />HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION MINUTES 5 September 5, 2002 <br />
