ACTION MINUTES OF THE <br />HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION <br />CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS <br />22 CIVIC CENTER PLAZA <br />SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br />FEBRUARY 7, 2002 <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br />5:46 P.M. <br />PROCEDURAL RULES <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />HISTORIC RESOURCE DEMOLITION N0.2001-01, 2001- 02 AND 2001-03 <br />Filed by fhe City of Santa Ana to discuss the notice of intent to demolish <br />three structures located at 1007-1009, 1015, and 1109 North Broadway and <br />listed on the Santa Ana Register of Historic Properties as part of the One <br />Broadway Plaza high-rise office project. <br />PUBLISHED IN THE REGISTER: December 21, 2001 <br />PUBLICLYNOTICED: December 2l, 2001 <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />u <br />Receive public commenf and discuss the demolition of the historical <br />structures located of 1007-1009, 1015, and 1109 North Broadway. <br />Charles View, Planning Manager, provided a brief update and advised the Commission <br />that the Environmental Impact Review's (EIR) anticipated release date is February 22. <br />Today the Commission is receiving comments on the request to demolish the historical <br />structures. The Planning Commission will hold a hearing and be receiving comments on <br />the draft EIR; a full document will be provided for those who want a copy. <br />No written communications have been received. <br />Madam Chair Kings had received correspondence from the following: <br />• Santa Ana Historical Preservation Society stating they consider demolition of the <br />buildings only as a last resort but do not have the resources to acquire or <br />relocate the structures. <br />• Heninger Park opposing the demolition and that relocation should only be <br />considered as a last resort. They have two lots that could be possible relocation <br />sites and would work with the City. Both the Heninger Park and Santa Ana <br />Historical Preservation Society letters asked for Caribou to provide funds to <br />relocate and move the structures. <br /> <br />• Discovery Museum stating they would consider accepting the Koenig House as a <br />last resort. <br />• French Park opposing the demolition and expressed the hope that Caribou would <br />help pay for mitigation costs. They offered their assistance with relocation <br />efforts. <br />Madam Chair Kings opened the public hearing. <br />Elizabeth Palmer, Santa Ana resident, spoke of the importance of historical preservation, <br />maintaining downtown Santa Ana, and asked that we do everything possible to preserve <br />the buildings. <br />HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION MINUTES 4 FEBRUARY 7. 2002 <br />
