Oral Comments -Comments from the Public <br />There were no public comments. <br />STAFF AND COMMISSION COMMENTS <br />8. Comments from Staff <br />Mr. View <br />• Announced the annual downtown celebration "Fiestas of the Americas," from <br />September 14-16 in Downtown Fourth Street. <br />• Provided an update on the Masonic Temple noting it is fully operational and is <br />promoting dinner theater and special events. <br />• Noted the awnings at the Santora Building are retractable, and that construction for <br />Memphis Restaurant is underway. <br />• Provided an update on One Broadway Plaza, and anticipate to have the draft EIR out <br />by December for action in spring 2002. <br />• Provided an update on various projects in the downtown area. <br />Mr. Edwards <br />• Announced the Template Committee will be receiving their packets on Monday for <br />the next meeting on Friday, September 14 at 3 p.m. <br />• Announced the Housing Element won an APA award of merit from the State and will <br />submit nomination to Chicago for national award. <br />9. Comments from Historic Resources Commission <br />Commissioner O'Callaghan <br />• Noted he was pleased to be back and thanked staff for all their hard work. <br />Commissioner Chinn <br />• Announced the Wilshire Square Neighborhood Fall Festival, Home Tour and Tea on <br />Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. <br />• Announced a tour of historic Arroyo Seco region's modern homes sponsored by <br />Pasadena & Foothill Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and Highland <br />Park Heritage on Sunday, September 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. <br />• Requested modification on web site where stated "any property on the local register <br />proposing exterior modification, relocation and demolition, this historical structure <br />`must have' request reviewed first and a public hearing conducted by the <br />Commission." Requested it be modified noting the benefits of getting on the list <br />such as loan programs and Mills Act. <br />' Noted the YMCA building is in dire need of clean-up and noticed electrical work <br />being performed. Mr. View provided an update on the building and Taller San Jose <br />noting they are reorganizing their business plan to relocate industrial part of their use <br />and staff requested they clear out storage use at the YMCA; and will investigate <br />inquiry on the electrical and report back to Commission. <br />• Inquired on what is envisioned for the Phillips Block Building. Mr. View noted there <br />are three components envisioned which consist of office use, bakery and possibly <br />lofts.
