CERTIFICATES OF RECOGNITION <br />C. <br />Madame Chair Kings presented a service award on behalf of the Commission to former <br />Historic Resources Commissioners Berry and Cribb. Former Commissioner Brenes was <br />unable to attend. She commended each for their diligent service and offered <br />' acknowledgements to the individual contributions that each commissioner made to the <br />genesis and evolution of the Historic Resources Commission. <br />WORK STUDY SESSION <br />D. <br />Christopher Norman presented an overview to the modifications necessary to Chapter <br />30. Included in his presentation was a proposal to amend three specific sections of the <br />code: <br />1) To create internal consistency; <br />2) Add an implementation instrument for creating historic districts; and <br />3) Create a method for the Commission to approve alterations for <br />historic structures. <br />Commissioners Rankin, Kings, Chinn and Richardson requested that staff clarify a <br />number of detailed questions about the proposals. Staff indicated that the detailed <br />ordinance preparation would address the comments raised at the meeting. <br />E. DISCUSSION OF INFORMATIONAL PACKAGES FOR OWNERS OF <br />HISTORICAL PROPERTIES <br />Hally Cappiello presented an overview of the staff work involving the preparation <br />of informational packages designed for owners of historic properties. The <br />package would consist of four basic components: <br />1) A history of Santa Ana <br />2) Frequently asked questions (by property owners) <br />3) Details of City of Santa Ana Historic Preservation Programs <br />4) Resources to assist owners of historic properties <br />Commissioners Chinn and Giles offered constructive feedback of detailed <br />information that they believe to be valuable to owners and prospective owners. <br />Staff indicated that the requested adjustments would be made to informational <br />packages. <br />F <br />Madame Chair Kings requested that her fellow commissioners bring closure to <br />the request to include these properties in the official Register of Historic <br />Properties. After a brief discussion among the Commissioners regarding the <br />merits of each property, the following recommendations were made: <br />1) Commissioner Giles recommended that the Izaac Walton cabin be <br />added to the list. <br />2) Commissioner Kings recommended that the City's water tower be <br />added to the list and that Maharaja and Elliot houses not be added to <br />the list until the rest of the neighborhood is considered. <br />HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION MINUTES 2 APRIL 5, 2001 <br />
