schools, physical activity, and accessible and affordable <br />foods; and <br />2) Active Living in Santa Ana (ALISA), a coalition of <br />organizations dedicated to increasing opportunities for Santa <br />Ana residents to be more physica{ly active to stay fit and <br />combat Type II Diabetes and Obesity ;and <br />3) Healthy Eating, Active Communities (HEAC), a program <br />sponsored by The California Endowment that demonstrates <br />how communities can reshape the food and physical activity <br />environment to improve children's health; and <br />4) Safe and Active Living United District (SALUD), a health and <br />wellness program started by the City in collaboration with <br />neighborhood associations; and <br />5) Building Healthy Communities Initiative focused on central <br />Santa Ana; and <br />6) The Healthy Cities Committee, established with participation <br />from Santa Ana residents, which has conducted a survey to <br />identify priority health issues. <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby adopts this <br />Healthy Eating Active Living Resolution and declares itself a Healthy Eating <br />Active Living City: <br />I. Built Environment. City Agencies responsible for the design, <br />construction and safety of parks, neighborhoods, streets, and business <br />areas, shall make every effort to plan and construct a safe built <br />environment that encourages walking, biking and other forms of physical <br />activity, including; <br />1) Address walking and biking connectivity between residential <br />neighborhoods and schools, parks, recreational resources, and <br />retail by developing a bicycle and pedestrian master plan; <br />2) Assess community needs for increased open space and continue to <br />increase the number of parks in the City, with an emphasis on park <br />poor neighborhoods; <br />3) Continue its successful joint use agreements and explore expanded <br />possibilities with a range of public entities; <br />Resolution No. 2011-003 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />
