Children, who still require access to key destinations in their community, such as <br />schools, convenience stores and recreational facilities. They prefer residential streets <br />with low motor vehicle speeds, linked with shared -use paths and busier streets with well- <br />defined pavement markings between bicycles and motor vehicles, so they can avoid <br />riding in the travel lane of major arterials. <br />The "commuter" bicyclists that this plan refers to are generally the type A riders, but the <br />implementation of the plan will benefit all types. <br />1.4. Orange County Bikeways <br />There are currently more than 1000 miles of bikeways in Orange County, with roughly another 700 <br />miles that have been planned. It is the responsibility of the local jurisdictions to plan, implement, <br />and maintain the bikeways in Orange County. These local jurisdictions include all of the 34 Orange <br />County cities, the County of Orange, and Caltrans. All existing and planned bikeway data presented <br />in this plan was submitted by these local jurisdictions.
