P'1rA��rAT rAP'f <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />FEBRUARY 21, 2012 <br />TITLE: <br />CONTINGENCY INCREASE FOR <br />BRISTOL - WARNER INTERSECTION <br />(PROJECT NO. 091752) <br />r--' j <br />x; zu <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED d' -'21 12 <br />BAs Recommended RJA <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 151 Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2 n Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />CITY MA9AGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Increase the contingency for the contract with Hillcrest Contracting Inc. for the construction of <br />the Bristol- Warner Intersection Widening Project by $250,000 to a total estimated contract <br />amount of $1,587,091 and authorize the City Manager to execute change orders in an amount <br />not to exceed the authorized contingency. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On March 21, 2011, the City Council awarded a contract for the Bristol- Warner Intersection <br />Widening Project to Hillcrest Contracting Inc. in the estimated amount of $1,215,538 plus a <br />10 percent contingency of $121,553 totaling $1,337,091. The project is 40 percent complete with <br />79 percent of the contingency exhausted. <br />The major changes that expended the contingency are: the replacement of a 24 -inch corroded <br />storm drain pipe at a cost of $68,000, the relocation and resizing of a precast concrete vault at a <br />cost of $24,231, and the relocation of two back-flow devices at a cost of $3,680. Additionally, there <br />are several major changes outstanding such as a bypass for a broken 16 -inch water valve and the <br />relocation of an existing Metropolitan Water District metering station at an estimated combined cost <br />of $101,500. With the outstanding changes and the unforeseen conditions that are associated <br />with construction of a street widening project and underground utility work, staff recommends <br />increasing the contingency by $250,000. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />This is no environmental impact associated with this action. <br />
