Due to the size of the cranes and the location of the lines it was not possible to install the fifteen girders, for the north half of the bridge, without de- energizing SCE's lines. Following several coordination meetings with SCE, they agreed to a three -day window from Sam to 3pm to de- energize the lines contingent on the energy demand on the grid. The transmission lines over the bridge are a critical component to the southwest grid. Consequently, when the energy demand is high it is not possible for SCE to de- energize these lines without interrupting service on the grid. Therefore, SCE advised that the de- energizing window may fluctuate with the energy demand on the grid. The first day, due to weather forecast, SCE was not able to de- energize the lines until lam, which caused a two hour delay to the contractor. The second day went well and SCE was able to de- energize the lines as planned. However, the third was eventually cancelled due to the extreme hot weather. The contractor was on standby for approximately four hours before it was confirmed that SCE was not able to de- energize the lines; which caused the rescheduling of the work.
