Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Approve an appropriation adjustment recognizing the FY 2010/11 California Gang Reduction, <br />Intervention and Prevention Program Fund (CAL GRIP) in the amount of $369,309 into the revenue <br />account (no.15514002-52028) and appropriate same into the expenditure accounts (nos. 15514412- <br />various). <br />DISCUSSION <br />The State of California, Office of Emergency Management Agency provides grant funding to state law <br />enforcement agencies through the California Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention Program <br />Fund (CAL GRIP). This competitive grant program is part of the State's commitment to combating <br />gang and youth violence and is awarded to cities and community-based organizations with a heavy <br />concentration of gangs. <br />The Santa Ana Police Department's Police Athletic and Activities League (SAPAAL) in a <br />collaborative effort with additional government agencies, educational partners and community based <br />groups, submitted and has been awarded CAL GRIP grant funding. This funding will provide the <br />SAPAAL and its partners with the resources to enhance its established gang prevention and <br />intervention programs with the objective of increasing participation of at-risk youth by as much as <br />20%. This two-year grant requires a 100% match on the part of the City. The Police Departments in- <br />kind match includes the salary and benefits of one Police Officer, and a portion of the SAPAAL <br />Assistant Director position. Funds from this match requirement are budgeted in the General Fund <br />and the Police Criminal Activity Fund. <br />20A-1
