90B CITY COUNCILMEMBER COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Benavides: <br />• Thanked outgoing City Manager David Ream for his service to the <br />community; and <br />• Asked the Police Chief or Public Safety Committee to review policies <br />adopted by other cities regarding vehicle impounds. <br />Councilmember Martinez: <br />• Agreed that the vehicle impound policy should be reviewed, will be <br />agendized on the Public Safety Committee agenda; <br />• Informed all that PBID still being reviewed; some members of the City <br />Council continue to meet with business owners and staff; <br />• Thanked all involved in success of Earth Day and Bike Ride event held <br />on Saturday, April 16th; <br />• Commented on importance of Agenda Item 80A approved at this <br />evening's meeting; resolution of item will allow City to move forward <br />with project and have groundbreaking either in the Fall or early Spring; <br />and <br />• Invited staff and all to participate in Bike-to-Work week in May. <br />Councilmember Sarmiento: <br />• Congratulated Councilmember Martinez on her efforts and success of <br />Earth Day; <br />• Participated as Principal for a Day at Edison Elementary School <br />"Eagles"; schools make good use of few resources; <br />• Thanked City Manager for explanation on role as contract official; <br />updated all on recruitment process for City Attorney position; and <br />• Commented on recent email sent out by Chairman of the Republican <br />Central Orange County Committee depicting bigotry; offended by such <br />e-mail. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Alvarez: <br />• Commented on Downtown Santa Ana, business types and success <br />should be driven by economy; <br />• Provided water update; met some Mayors of Central Valley California <br />in Washington DC as representative of the Orange County Water <br />District, water shortage continues to be a problem and urged all to <br />continue to conserve; <br />• Mayor Pulido scored winning basketball at event over the weekend; <br />thanked Councilmember Martinez for efforts in making it a successful <br />event; and <br />• Congratulated Washington Square Neighborhood that held a Clean-Up <br />event over the weekend. <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 21 <br />APRIL 18, 2011 <br />1OB-21
