Councilmember Tinajero: <br />• Noted that improvements throughout the City, cleanliness, and parks <br />throughout the City are credited to the legacy and efforts by retiring <br />City Manager David Ream. <br />Councilmember Benavides <br />• Recognized festivities in celebration of Cinco de Mayo; Ozomatli was <br />entertainment headliner; and <br />• Thanked retiring City Manager David Ream for dedication and <br />contributions to the community; has been stabilizing force for almost 30 <br />years. <br />Councilmember Bustamante: <br />• Echoed comments by colleagues on leadership and service by City <br />Manager Ream; ability to work through difficult situations; blocked bad <br />development in the early 1980's. <br />Councilmember Martinez: <br />• Also thanked City Manager Ream for his service to the community; <br />• Asked that all participate in the Bike Ride and OC Marathon coming to <br />Downtown Santa Ana next year; <br />• Wished all a Happy Cinco de Mayo; thanked Parks, Recreation and <br />Community Services Agency for successful event over the weekend; <br />Ozomatli was great entertainment; and <br />• Appreciate speakers who spoke at tonight's meeting; believe in social <br />balance as Council represents all residents. <br />Councilmember Sarmiento: <br />• Commented on assassination of Osama Bin Laden, congratulated US <br />President on carrying out that mission; <br />• Corrected comment made at previous meeting - City is multicultural <br />and celebrate many cultures and predominately Latino; and <br />• Asked that staff address the solicitor's permit requirements and <br />regulations. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Alvarez: <br />• Reflected on tragic events on 9/11 and now the killing of Osama Bin <br />Laden; <br />• Agenda Item 55A is indicative of City's commitment to our military by <br />providing extension of benefits for employees that serve our Country; <br />and <br />• Wished all a Happy Mother's Day. <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 16 MAY 2, 2011
