Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award a contract to Allstar Fire Equipment, Inc. for the purchase of 208 pair of firefighting boots <br />in the amount of $51,461; and increase the aggregate limit by $25,000 for miscellaneous supplies <br />in an amount not to exceed $76,461 annually. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On November 15, 2010, the City Council accepted a $49,920 grant with a required match from <br />City funds of 20% for a total amount of $62,400, from the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant <br />program. The purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program is to protect the health and <br />safety of the public and firefighting personnel against fire and related hazards. <br />In an effort to protect and assist fire suppression personnel in the performance of their duty, the <br />Fire Department Maintenance Section provides firefighting boots for approximately 200 <br />firefighters. Firefighting boots are worn daily and are a necessary part of fire suppressions <br />outfitted uniform in compliance with California Occupational Safety and Health Administration <br />(CalOSHA) and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA). The Santa Ana Fire Department <br />Maintenance Division has replaced firefighting boots on an as-needed basis. The recommended <br />action will supplement the department's inventory of out dated boots and allow for replacements <br />which will meet the current National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) recommendations. <br />Additionally, Allstar Fire Equipment, Inc. provides miscellaneous firefighting equipment. The <br />purchase of the firefighting boots, when added to the vendor's fiscal purchases, will exceed the <br />$25,000 aggregate limit. In order to facilitate future purchases, staff recommends an increase to <br />the aggregate limit. <br />22B-1
