Public Outreach Plan
Santa Ana Parking Study
June 7, 2011
The Santa Ana Parking Study includes several elements for the public outreach plan. These core
elements include:
1. Project Advisory Committee - this group will kick off the study on June 8, 2011 and
includes representatives from Community Development, Planning, Economic
Development, Public Works, and the Police Department. This group will serve as the
sounding board for the project team, helping to establish project issues, process, and
outcomes. It is envisioned that the project team will meet with the Project Advisory
Committee monthly throughout the life of the project.
2. Stakeholder Outreach/Focus Groups - this process represents the initial community
outreach for the study. After completing the initial assessment of parking conditions in
the community, the project team will meet with community stakeholders in either one
on one or focus group style meetings. These meetings are intended to gather information
and discuss issues only. At this time, the project team will not provide recommendations
about the parking system. Our intent is to gather information in these sessions, for use in
the development of policies and recommendations.
3. Public Survey - the project team will develop a series of questions intended to engage
the Santa Ana community and gather feedback about the perception of the existing
parking system. The survey will be housed on SurveyMonkey.com and should be
advertised through the City website and other media channels. Additionally, the project
team will hand out information sheets that describe the survey during stakeholder and
focus group outreach. The project team will develop the questions, submit them to the
City staff and Advisory Committee for review, and then develop the online survey.
4. Stakeholder Outreach Session 2 - the second stakeholder outreach session will be held
to present recommendations to the original community stakeholders and focus groups,
in an effort to build consensus before full community-wide public outreach. The project
team will present the recommendations (which will have already been presented to and
commented on by the City staff) and gather feedback concerning implementation of the
suggested recommendations.
5. Public Outreach - following completion of the second round of stakeholder outreach,
the project team will facilitate a community outreach session to present
recommendations and inform the Santa Ana community of the proposed improvements
and policies. The project team will develop flyers and work with the City staff to
advertise the public outreach event.
(We are open to discussions regarding the number and location of public outreach events if you
feel more than one is appropriate).
Exhibit A
