(2) The Contractor is responsible for inspecting all plant material on a continuous basis and, as necessary, treating <br />plant material to maintain optimum health of the plants. If any plant material (turf, groundcover, shrubs, trees) <br />dies without the Contractor diagnosing the plant and implementing efforts to restore the plant to a healthy and <br />attractive appearance, the City will assume the Contractor caused the plant death. Contractor will be required <br />to replace the plant with like species and size at no extra cost to the City. City is responsible for cost of <br />replacing plants lost to vandalism; however, Contractor must prove that it was vandalism that killed the plant. <br />In the case where turf is lost due to pest damage, the Contractors shall replace the area of turf lost with Pacific <br />Sod Greg Norman 1 Hybrid Bermuda (during spring/summer) and Pacific Sod Greg Norman 1 Hybrid <br />Bermuda that has been cropped over with Perennial Rye grass (during fall/winter). <br />7. Irrigation System Maintenance <br />a) General Responsibilities <br />(l) Contractor's Certified Irrigation Specialist shall use automatic or mechanical irrigation systems to irrigate all <br />landscape areas detailed in this Agreement. In the event the existing irrigation system fails to provide full <br />and proper coverage, the Contractor shall provide alternate irrigation with full and proper coverage to all <br />areas in the work site at no extra cost to the City. <br />(2) Newly planted trees, shrubs, ground cover and turf shall receive adequate water to promote normal healthy <br />growth. Proper berms or basins shall be maintained during plant establishment period. <br />b) Operation of Automatic Irrigation Controllers <br />Where the operation of automatic irrigation controllers is required, the Contractor shall: <br />(1) Not duplicate any coded City key furnished by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency for <br />access and operation of the controller. <br />(2) Surrender all keys furnished by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency at the end of the <br />contract period or at any time deemed necessary by the Director to prevent serious loss to the City of Santa <br />Ana. <br />(3) Protect the security of City property by keeping controller cabinet and building doors locked at all times. <br />(4) Refrain from using locked premises for storage of materials, supplies or tools, except as approved by the <br />Director. <br />(5) Program normal irrigation between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. unless alternative hours are <br />approved by City. <br />c) Water Conservation <br />(1) The Contractors Certified Irrigation Specialist shall meet once a month with Park Services to review the <br />City's Monthly Water Conservation Report to discuss water conservation strategies. These discussions may <br />include, but not be limited to, the Contractor turning off irrigation systems during periods of rainfall and <br />times when suspension of irrigation is desirable to conserve water while remaining within the guidelines of <br />the EAW. <br />(2) When Park Services determines that plant material (turf, groundcover, shrubs, and trees) must be irrigated, <br />all controllers shall be activated within twenty-four (24) hours.
