.. <br />L <br />X <br />LU <br />o Medical Careers- Taller San Jose's Medical Careers Academy <br />trains youth as both administrative and clinical medical <br />assistants. Classes include basic computer and the use of <br />Electronic Medical Record as well as additional training with <br />Medisoft, standard software used in most private medical <br />practices. The administrative medical assistant curriculum <br />emphasizes medical terminology, health insurance, record- <br />keeping, telephone techniques, customer safety, computer <br />skills, health safety, communication skills and professionalism. <br />Curriculum for the clinical medical assistant training program <br />teaches students to measure vital signs, assist the physician <br />with procedures, administer medications and give injections, <br />record electrocardiograms (ECGs), draw blood samples and <br />perform basic laboratory tests. Students also team medical <br />terminology and anatomy, basic math skills and medication <br />dosage calculations. Program graduates receive the Basic Life <br />Support for Healthcare Providers certification and wallet card <br />from the American Heart Association. This identifies the <br />graduate as a provider of CPR, administrator of the automated <br />external defibrillator (AED) and administrator of fust aid <br />measures. All trainees participate in a 4 -week externship at a <br />local community clinic at the end of their training. <br />• Office Careers Academy - This program trains and certifies <br />students in Microsoft Office and Excel and prepares graduates <br />for employment as administrative assistants, receptionists and <br />data entry specialists in local companies. Business Skills training <br />is woven throughout the curriculum and incorporates customer <br />service, presenting Power Point presentations, working with <br />Outlook, writing business letters and professional etiquette. <br />Every student participates in mock interview sessions with local <br />business professionals prior to graduation. Upon program <br />completion the students have become certified Microsoft Office <br />Specialists from Certiport. Additionally, through a unique <br />partnership with Santa Ana College, students enrolled in this <br />program are co -enrolled at the college, attend class on campus <br />one day a week, and, upon graduation, receive up to 3 college <br />credits toward their Associates Degree.
