ATTACHMENT A 2011-DJ-BX-2532 <br />Santa Ana City: <br />The City of Santa Ana proposes to use the 2011 Justice Assistance Grant funding as follows: <br />Purpose Areas: State which Purpose Area(s) out of the following programs your project will be used for <br />- Law Enforcement; <br />Program Narrative: <br />Outline the Proposed program activities - <br />Through the use of grant funding the City of Santa Ana will augment its Gang Enforcement Units, and <br />Career Criminal Unit with suppression units working overtime to target enforcement of gang members <br />and Career- Criminals involved in violent behavior. The department currently lacks the manpower- and <br />fiscal resources to address this problem, these officers will be deployed directly into the neighborhoods <br />being most affected by the current state of affairs and will be funded for the three year giant period. This <br />funding will equate to approximately 1,890 hours of additional law enforcement presence on our streets. <br />The Santa Ana Police Department is additionally providing 10% of its allocated funds to Pro-Act <br />Program in support of their- operational needs <br />Provide a brief Analysis of the need for the programs - <br />The Santa Ana criminal street gang population of approximately 6,900 which accounts for the less than <br />two percent of the City's population, this criminal element constitutes a significant impact on fear in the <br />community and threatens the safety and stability of our neighborhoods. <br />Goals of the proiect: <br />The goal of these projects is the reduce criminal activity through enhanced enforcement efforts, increase <br />public safety and equip frontline law enforcement with needed safety equipment <br />Strategies to be used for project: <br />The use of selective enforcement overtime coupled with crime analysis data allows resources to be <br />specifically deployed in areas of increased criminal activity during time frames found to be most <br />beneficial to project goals: <br />1. Contact gang members and Career Criminals to gain intelligence and investigative information <br />for prosecutorial purposes <br />2. Increase the number of arrests and prosecution of gang members and Career Criminals <br />3.
