The Santa Ana Police Department currently has 25 persons assigned as traffic enforcement officers. This includes three Sergeants and four Corporals. We are currently understaffed by one and there are no current plans to replace this officer. Due to fiscal constraints, hiring has nearly stopped over the last several years. In the same period, we have averaged 20 retirements a year. Each retirement has directly reduced the pool of officers available for various assignments. With exception of our current vacancy we have sustained our staffing for the last five years. 2.
