Councilmember Tinajero noted efforts to <br /> balance each Ward by equal population. Mayor Pro Tern Alvarez <br /> commented that re-boundary not done in 2000 because population was <br /> within the required 10%; staff to make every effort possible to engage <br /> community and educate on the process taken to develop proposed map. <br /> Councilmember Sarmiento thanked the Ad Hoc Committee and speakers <br /> for comments; proposed re-boundary will balance all wards. Mayor Pulido <br /> indicated that the City has Ward elections at-large and not by Ward. <br /> Councilmember Martinez thanked staff for efforts. Councilmember <br /> Benavides looks forward to working with new neighborhood associations <br /> he will be representing. <br /> <br /> *Councilmember Bustamante left the meeting at 7:40 p.m. and did not return. <br /> <br /> AMENDED MOTION: <br /> <br /> 1. Direct staff to meet with members of the community interested in <br /> learning about the process taken to develop the proposed <br /> boundary map; if suggestions or new proposals submitted, the <br /> City Council may consider prior to final approval of Ward Re- <br /> Boundary. <br /> 2. Place ordinance on first reading and authorize publication of title. <br /> (Requires five affirmative votes.) <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE NO.
