Three of these facilities had two <br />School of Science <br />locations mapped for a total of fourteen separate sites surveyed. Access to sites was complicated. Our crews had to <br />carefully plan their routes to sites around unexploded ordinance (UXO) areas, <br />historical sites and endangered species. Physical mobilization was complicated <br />by lack of roads and the rugged desert terrain, composed of severe canyons. <br />Our tasks were broken into 3 distinct areas: <br />Control Surveys - Global Positioning System (GPS) surveys tied into NAD <br />83 coordinate datum as well as vertical control on -site <br />Topographic Surveys - Gathered topographic survey information utilizing a <br />total station and data collector at three separate areas for the Theatre Missile <br />Defense (TMD)Target Launch Facility at Fort Wingate, <br />Boundary Surveys - Performed boundary surveys of 42,000 feet of existing <br />boundary and 103,000 feet of new boundary lines, setting 150 new stainless <br />steel monuments with guard posts. <br />14 <br />
