"z Engineers -- the bridge between scientific theory and business <br />practice -- are what drive startups. <br />Skills, credentials, education and training necessary for entry into or retention in engi- <br />neering: Generally, employers are seeking a Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering. In addition, <br />OCTANe's employer members are telling Executive Director Matthew Janusaids that new engineer- <br />ing graduates who have had hands -on workplace experience and have worked on projects in teams <br />are their preferred candidates. <br />Average, current wages offered in the industry and /or occupation, based on national, <br />state or local data. In Science, Technology; Engineering, and Mathe- <br />matics (STEM) fields, our nation's public education system is failing students, particularly low- <br />income students of color. The National Academies deport that: <br />"Underrepresented minorities - including African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Ameri- <br />cans - comprised just over 9% of minority college - educated Americans in science and engineering <br />occupations in 2006, the report notes.
