Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Adopt a resolution supporting State funding of two projects in the city and authorizing the City <br />Manager to submit the First Street Bike Lane and Maple Bike Trail Enhanced Crossings Projects <br />for funding consideration under the Bicycle Transportation Account. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The State of California Department of Transportation issued a call for Bicycle Transportation <br />Accounts (BTA) applications for fiscal year 2012-2013. BTA is a State-funded program which <br />provides construction funds for projects that improve safety and convenience for bicycle <br />commuters. <br />In response to this call, the City is requesting authorization to submit grant applications for two <br />projects: First Street Bike Lane from Harbor Boulevard to Newhope Avenue, and Maple Bike <br />Trail Enhanced Crossings (Exhibit 2). The First Street Bike Lane Project involves a new Class II <br />(on-street) bike lane installation. The Maple Bike Trail Enhanced Crossings Project will enhance <br />the bike trail crossing safety at Occidental Street, Saint Andrews Place, and Saint Gertrude <br />Place. The enhancements include traffic calming to narrow the bike trail street crossings with <br />bulb outs and painted crosswalks. The application deadline is April 27, 2012. <br />55A-1
