4 <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />CITY AGENCY PROPOSAL <br />FISCAL YEAR 2012-13 PROGRAM <br />AGENCY: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Agency <br />PROJECT NAME: <br />Library Tutor Program <br />AMOUNT REQUESTED: $ 258,072 <br />The program provides free bilingual after-school homework help in all school subjects by providing <br />tutoring to all Santa Ana students in grades K-12 at the two library sites (Main Library and Newhope <br />Library) and Jerome Center. Tutors work with individual students to help them understand and complete <br />homework assignments, as well as assisting students who are having difficulties with basic reading and <br />math skills. <br />The program provides: <br />• Free homework help for all Santa Ana students (5-12) <br />• Qualified bilingual tutors; <br />• Access to computers and the Internet to fill the technological gap between schools and homes; <br />• Interactive academic enhancement through educational software; <br />• Computer workshops on various topics, creative writing workshops, Buddy Programs, college and career <br />guidance programs and mentoring opportunities <br />75A-14
