Adopt a resolution supporting federal funding of four projects in the city and authorizing the City <br />Manager to submit the Newhope Avenue Bike Lane, First Street Bike Lane, Chestnut Avenue <br />Bike Lane and Maple Bike Trail Enhanced Crossings Projects for funding consideration under <br />the Bicycle Corridor Improvement Program. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The State of California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) issued a call for Bicycle <br />Transportation Accounts (BTA) applications for fiscal year 2012 -2013. In addition, the Orange <br />County Transportation Authority (OCTA) issued a call for Bicycle Corridor Improvement (BCI) <br />Program applications. BTA is a State - funded program and BCI is a federally funded program, <br />both of which provide construction funds for projects that improve safety and convenience for <br />bicycle commuters_ <br />On April 16, 2012, Council adopted a resolution authorizing submission of applications for <br />funding of two projects through the BTA program: the First Street Bike Lane from Harbor <br />Boulevard to Newhope Street and the Maple Bike Trail Enhanced Crossings Project_ Since <br />then, staff identified two additional projects for funding consideration: the Chestnut Avenue Bike <br />Lane from Standard Avenue to Grand Avenue, and the Newhope Avenue Bike Lane from <br />Westminster Avenue to McFadden Avenue. The Newhope Street, First Street, and Chestnut <br />Avenue Projects involve new Class II (on- street) bike lane installations (Exhibit 2). The Maple <br />Bike Trail Enhanced Crossings Project will enhance the bike trail crossings at Occidental Street, <br />Saint Andrews Place, and Saint Gertrude Place. <br />55B -1 <br />
