90B CITY COUNCILMEMBER COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Tinajero: <br />• Commented that the City Council showcased some of the <br />accomplishments throughout the community (during the presentations <br />portion of the meeting); proud of all; <br />• Directed the Clerk of the Council to schedule a Special Meeting of the <br />Ethics Committee on June 7th to discuss proposed sunshine ordinance <br />as prepared by SACReD; <br />• Recognized Harvey Contreras, President of Valley Little League for <br />going above-and-beyond the call of duty; have held several free <br />community events; thanked for selflessness; <br />• Recalled the City's determination to bring the Discovery Science <br />Center to the city of Santa Ana; great addition to the City as well as the <br />Artist Village. <br />Councilmember Benavides: <br />Thanked speakers for their attendance and community representation; <br />"Cinco de Mayo" and Art Walk events over the weekend successful; <br />Congratulated, thanked and wished all a "Happy Mother's Day" and <br />"Feliz Dia de Las Madres". <br />Councilmember Sarmiento: <br />• Reiterated comments made earlier on the Discovery Science Center; <br />had record breaking exhibit on Star Wars; <br />• Noted that outsourcing of the Santa Ana Zoo possibility; if so, would be <br />handled through Request for Proposal process; <br />• City recently held event commemorating the symbolic birthplace of <br />Little Saigon; <br />• Thanked speakers that spoke on Santora Building; and <br />• Wished all a Happy Mother's Day. <br />Councilmember Martinez: <br />• Asked Police Chief Walters to talk about Peace Officers Memorial <br />event held over the weekend. Chief Walters noted that Sergeant John <br />Aguilar will be inducted into the Memorial in Sacramento; <br />• Invited all to attend the Health and Fitness Fair on May 19th at Godinez <br />High School; <br />• Suggested that Ethics Committee consider the proposed repeal of the <br />campaign contribution ordinance; <br />• Noted that City has made significant strides in the area transparency; <br />SACReD and OCCCO have proposed sunshine ordinance; <br />• Paid tribute to her mother and wished all a Happy Mother's Day. <br />Councilmember Bustamante: <br />• Congratulated Mater Die on basketball championships; <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 16 MAY 7, 2012
