13.5 3% at 50 Service Retirement Benefit for Safety Members. The City agrees to amend its <br />contract with CaIPERS to provide Safety employees represented by this bargaining unit with <br />the 3% at 50 Service Retirement benefit effective July 1, 2001. <br />Payment of 3% at 50 Service Retirement Benefit. The actual cost for the benefit shall be <br />determined upon receipt of the annual actuarial valuation setting forth employer rates for the <br />2001-02 fiscal year and every subsequent year thereafter. <br />Commencing July 1, 2011, all safety members in the Association shall contribute an <br />additional one percent (1%) of payroll to Ca1PERS for the cost of the service retirement <br />benefit, for a total contribution of 2.42%. This 2.42% is paid pursuant to Government Code <br />Section 20516(f). <br />Commencing December 1, 2011, all employees covered by this Agreement shall pay an <br />additional 2% of their salary to pay for employer portion of the City's PERS contribution. <br />This contribution shall be paid in accordance with Government Code section 20516(f). With <br />this additional 2% for cost sharing, for the period of December 1, 2011 through June 30, <br />2012, safety employees in the unit shall pay a total of 4.42% of their salary to pay for <br />employer portion of the City's PERS contribution in accordance with Government Code <br />section 20516(f). During this same period, non-safety employees, who, prior to December 1, <br />2011, in accordance with Section 13.7 of the parties' MOU, paid 6.3% of their salary to pay <br />for the employer portion of the City's PERS contribution, will pay 8.3% of their salary to pay <br />for the employer portion of the City's PERS contribution. <br />Commencing on July 1, 2012 all safety employees covered by this Agreement shall pay an <br />additiona13.5% of their salary to pay for employer portion of the City's PERS contribution. <br />This contribution shall be paid in accordance with Government Code section 20516(f). With <br />this additiona13.5% for cost sharing, effective July 1, 2012, safety employees in the unit shall <br />pay a total of 7.92% of their salary to pay for employer portion of the City's PERS <br />contribution in accordance with Government Code section 20516(f). <br />13.6 Military Service Credit as Public Service. Effective January 2, 2001, Safety employees, and <br />April 5, 2002, Miscellaneous employees, respectively, may elect to purchase up to four (4) <br />years of service credit for any continuous active military or merchant marine service prior to <br />employment. The employee must contribute an amount equal to the contribution for current <br />and prior service that the employee and the employer would have made with respect to that <br />period of service. The City agrees that, as soon as practicable following Council approval of <br />this Agreement, and amendment to the CaIPERS contract, employees who elect to purchase <br />service credit may do so on a "pre-tax" basis. <br />13.7 2.7% at 55 Service Retirement Benefit for Miscellaneous Members. The City agrees to <br />amend its retirement contract with Ca1PERS to provide Miscellaneous employees covered by <br />this Agreement with the 2.7% at 55 Service Retirement benefit to be effective January 1, <br />2009. Pursuant to Ca1PERS regulations, this new formula will apply to employees that are in <br />active status on the date this amendment takes effect. This new formula will apply to each <br />year of eligible service credited with the City of Santa Ana. <br />53 <br />
