MEMORANDUM
Kevin O'Rourke
,.ro: Interim City Manager
Raul Godinez II, Executive Director
From: Public Works Agency
30
Date: June 14, 2013
Project Nos. 10-6704, 10-6705 and 12-6763
Traffic Signal Installation on Civic Center Dr. & Pacific St.; Traffic Signal
Installation on 17th/King St. and Bristol St. Bike Lane Extension from Edinger to
McFadden Avenues -[Federal Project HSIPL-5063(130) and HSIPL-5063(129)]
Subject: Change Order No. 1
Contractor: California Professional Engineering
929 Otterbein Avenue, Unit E
La Puente, CA 91748
Project Description: Traffic Signal Installations and Bike Lane Extension
Change Order Number: 1 Total This Change Order $ 12,487.50
Accounting Unit-Activity Number: 05917660-10670503028
JUSTIFICATION
The project includes the installation of two new traffic signals at the intersections of
Seventeenth/King Streets and Civic Center Drive/Pacific Street and to stripe a bike lane
along Bristol Street between McFadden and Edinger Avenues. A contract was awarded to
California Professional Engineering, Inc. on June 18, 2012 for the improvements which
include: new traffic signal poles, conduit, street lights, traffic loops, and striping.
To enhance pedestrian and motorist safety, a new traffic signal was installed at the
intersection of 17th and King Streets. However, due to the close proximity of the existing
traffic signal on 17th and English Streets with the new traffic signal on 17th and King Streets,
motorists approaching one intersection could confuse the signal light with the adjacent
intersection.
Therefore, the Traffic Engineering section recommended replacing the heads with
programmable vehicle light emitting diodes heads which appear off until motorists approach
the next intersection in order avoid this potential hazard per PCO No 2 dated 03/21/2013.
AGREED COSTS 12,487.50
