Downtown Inc. has marketed and assisted downtown retailers, as well as promoted Downtown Santa Ana as a <br />retail and entertainment destination, resulting in an increase in sales tax over the past 3 years. <br />According to the Mayor's recent 'State of the City' address, sales tax increased 6% in the Downtown and only 4% in <br />Santa Ana at large from Q1 2011 to Q4 2011. <br />On top of this, the nominal fees that are paid into the PBID by property owners resulted in a concrete increase in sales <br />for the area's businesses over the past three years. <br />The Board of Equalization provided information on the taxable sales of a diverse sample of businesses within the PBID. <br />Based on those numbers: <br />From 2009 to 2010, there was a 9.945% increase in taxable sales within the PBID, while property owners made <br />an investment of 0.7% of taxable sales through their assessment. <br />From 2010 to 2011, there was an increase in taxable sales of 38.21 %. Property owners made an investment of <br />0.5% of taxable sales through their assessment. <br />7 <br />
