Page 13 of 41 <br />Ground covers shall not be permitted to encroach into lawns, <br />shrubs, adjacent desirable bare areas, wall fixtures, fumiture, <br />beneath and/or into other plants, etc. All sites shall be cleaned <br />following each edging/detailing, Including streets (when applicable). <br />C. Ground cover that has grown beneath and into shrubs shall be <br />detailed not to touch the shrub/tree. <br />2) Fertilization/Amending <br />a. Each 5 acres of ground cover shall be soil tested once per year by <br />an approved soil testing laboratory. The test will be comprehensive <br />and provide written recommendations of how to improve the soil. <br />All ground cover will be fertilized eight (8) times per year per the <br />Valley Crest Landscape Management "Agronomic Plan 2008" (see <br />attached). The rate of application shall be one (2) pound of actual <br />nitrogen per 1,000 square feet. The Director may request proof of <br />fertilizer application in the form of empty fertilizer bags. <br />3) Cultivation or Mulch <br />a. All bare soil or open areas shall be either cultivated every two (2) <br />weeks or covered by a minimum of two (2) inches of mulch. Mulch <br />material shall be Black Forest mulch or approved equal by the <br />Director. <br />4) Irrigating <br />a. All ground cover shall be properly irrigated to maintain a healthy <br />condition. Failure of any portion of the irrigation system will not relieve <br />the Contractor if the responsibility to provide appropriate supplemental <br />irrigation to the ground cover. The Contractor shall relieve stress by <br />semi-automatically or manually running the irrigation systems. <br />C. SHRUB CARE <br />1) Pruning <br />a. All shrubs growing in the work areas shall be pruned as requested, <br />to maintain plants in a healthy growing condition and to maintain <br />plant growth within reasonable bounds to prevent encroachment of <br />passage ways, walks, streets, and view of signs or in any manner <br />deemed objectionable by the Director. Dead or damaged limbs or <br />branches shall be made clean with sharp pruning tools with no <br />projections or stubs remaining. Pruning shall be done in a manner <br />to permit plants to grow naturally in accordance with their normal <br />growth characteristics except box hedging may be required on <br />- some shrubs, as designated by the Director.
