Orange County Conservation Corps <br />Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board - The Youth Service Provider Network <br />Request for Proposal <br />PY 201212013 <br />Structure (Holland, 1985) to assess their career occupational interest. Based on the obtained <br />results, the WIA Corps Members research the jobs on O *NET to obtain expected job growth, <br />wages and educational requirements. Subsequently, depending on the training that is needed, <br />Corps Members are referred to ROP, Community Colleges, Apprenticeship Programs and <br />Technical Schools. Additionally, presenters are scheduled from a variety of high- demand <br />industries including green jobs, medical careers, etc. <br />12 Indicate how the program will connect youth to resources that will help them earn an <br />accredited credential or certificate or diploma:The Orange County Conservation Corps will <br />use a standardized TABE test to determine basic math and reading skill levels. All WIA <br />participants enrolled into the Conservation Corps' Charter School will be issued the California <br />High School Exit Exam ( CAHSEE). The test monitors progress towards meeting the high school <br />exit criteria, academic progress, and literacy and numeracy gains which are required by the <br />charter school. If students fail the CAHSEE test, they will be required to attend tutoring sessions <br />once a week with a Charter School teacher and register with an online program (Skill Tutor) <br />which allows students to self -tutor and improve math and reading skill levels. All WIA <br />participants who do not have a high school diploma or a GED will be enrolled into the <br />Conservation Corps' Charter School to earn the credits necessary for a credential. <br />14. What is the length of the program? How much time will a youth need to be in this <br />program to get the full benefits? How often will the WIA participant need to attend the <br />program and how often are specific activities offered (daily /weekly /monthly)? The Orange <br />County Conservation Corps' program is an open entry, open exit program; youth may be <br />recruited and enter the program at any time; and they may also exit the program at any time <br />based on individual needs, accomplishments, and abilities. Youth may work for the Corps for a <br />maximum of 24 months as long as they receive satisfactory work/school evaluations and are <br />making progress towards completing individual work and education goals. <br />All program components are ongoing and available on a year round basis. Specialized trainings <br />and workshops are offered at least quarterly. Any youth who stays with the Corps for six months <br />will be able to participate in the full array of services and programs offered by the Orange <br />County Conservation Corps. <br />Corps Members are scheduled to work eight hours per day Monday through Thursday. Orange <br />County Conservation Corps' charter school classes are scheduled daily for (1'/2) hours after work <br />Monday through Thursday and (4) hours on Friday. Week -end or evening activities and events <br />are scheduled as needed. These activities or events offer opportunities to volunteer and /or work <br />in the community. <br />15. How often will participants meet with agency staff? Will other non -WIA agency staff <br />be providing elements of the program? If so, please describe: Various Orange County <br />Conservation Corps staff members will meet daily with WIA Corps Members to deliver program <br />components. Corps Members will be assigned to work in a crew which is supervised by one of <br />the Corps' Crew Supervisors.
