• o Councilmember Sarmiento indicated prior to the meeting SEIU requested the <br />item be continued for two weeks. <br />o Joaquin Avalos (SEIU) submitted a report from SEIU and indicated SEIU is <br /> supportive if the Zoo was expanded/operated with existing zoo staff. SEIU is <br /> not in support if the zoo is privatized. SEIU wants zoo staff involved in the <br /> RFP process and language. <br />o Gerardo Mouet introduced Debbie Friedman and Steve McGuigan and <br /> indicated the FOSAZ Board is made up of 21 board members. <br />o Gerardo Mouet indicated the RFP will require the operator to address the 50 <br /> monkey issue, any legal issues and staff issues. <br />o Steve McGuigan asked if the RFP was for management or privatization of the <br /> zoo. <br />o Councilmember Sarmiento indicated we should not look at the in a vacuum, <br /> but as an entity that will ignite a whole 1St street improvement. <br />o Councilmember Sarmiento indicated we should include SEIU <br /> recommendation to have zoo staff involved in the RFP. <br />o Debbie Friedman asked if the report identified a directive on who should be <br /> an operator. <br />o Councilmember Sarmiento indicated the report analysis should identify/allow <br /> the zoo to grow. <br />o Debbie Friedman agrees with the RFP process and wants an opportunity to <br /> point out what is accurate on the report. <br />o Councilmember Sarmiento indicated the report only provides <br />• recommendations. City Council may add additional recommendations. <br />o Councilmember Sarmiento recommended to proceed with the RFP process. <br />• UPDATE ON THE FIVE ON FIVE RULE IN PARKS <br />o Councilmember Sarmiento recommended tabling the 5 on 5 rule. <br />• UPDATE ON HEALTHY EATING ACTIVE LIVING RESOLUTION <br />o Councilmember Sarmiento recommended tabling the HEAL resolution. <br />• STAFF UPDATE & COMMENTS <br />o Gerardo Mouet indicated an update report on Open Space will be presented <br />to the City Council in Fall 2012. <br />• COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS <br />o None. <br />ADJOURNED: 4:20 p.m. <br />Gerardo Mouet <br />is Executive Director, PRCSA <br />PREY Regular Meeting - MINUTES 2 June 4, 2012 <br />13B-2
