Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award a contract to George Salinas Tree Preservation for tree pruning in the Civic Center area in <br />an amount not to exceed $52,300. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency maintains 1,053 trees in the Civic <br />Center area, bounded by Santa Ana Boulevard, Sycamore Street, Civic Center Drive and Shelton <br />Street. Class 1 pruning -- which consists of crown cleaning to remove dead, dying, and diseased <br />branches -- is part of a regular maintenance program to remove safety hazards and to preserve <br />the health and visual appearance of trees. This maintenance cycle will include pruning the trees <br />west of Ross Street, those located in Sasccer Park, and those located on the south side of Civic <br />Center Drive, as well as palm trees located throughout the Civic Center area. <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on August 13, 2012, and bids were solicited. A summary <br />of the bid invitations and bids received is as follows: <br />11 Invitations For Bid mailed <br />7 Bids received <br />Bids were solicited and opened on September 5, 2012 and evaluated (Exhibit 1). The bid <br />received from George Salinas Tree Preservation is responsive to the specifications and meets <br />the City's requirements. A fifteen percent contingency has been included in the award amount to <br />allow for unanticipated charges. <br />22D-1
