Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award a contract to Dell Computer Corporation for the purchase of computers for the Parks, <br />Recreation and Community Services Agency, the Police Department and the Finance and <br />Management Services Agency, in an amount not to exceed $120,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City of Santa Ana operates and maintains over 1800 computers throughout the organization. <br />Current hardware inventory is between four and ten years old and is becoming obsolete. In order <br />to address this need, staff from the Budget and Application & Tech Support Divisions of the <br />Finance and Management Services Agency (FMSA) is developing a phased plan to replace and <br />upgrade hardware in every department. <br />In line with the plan, the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency (PRCSA) endeavors <br />to replace one fifth of the computers used by both staff and the public each year. Along with the <br />replacement of 35 staff computers, 31 computers used by the public at the Main Library's <br />Computer and Youth Computer Labs and the catalog and reference desks, and in the Newhope <br />Adult Computer Lab, will be replaced. This contract award also includes a computer for the <br />Council Chambers control room and a notebook computer for Council Chambers presentations, <br />which will be funded by Public Education Government (PEG) Capital Grant monies. <br />Additionally, the Santa Ana Police Department has identified 20 computers needing replacement <br />in the Special Investigations, Forensics, and Jail Divisions. Finally, in anticipation of <br />implementation of the replacement plan, the FMSA will purchase 25 computers to create an <br />available inventory for delivery throughout the organization. <br />22A-1
