Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award a contract to Golden Bell Products, Inc. to treat sanitary sewer manholes with insecticidal latex <br />coating for a one-year period, with provision for three one-year renewals, in an annual amount not to <br />exceed $50,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City owns and maintains a sanitary sewer collection system consisting of 390 miles of pipelines <br />and 8,300 manholes. Cockroach infestation is controlled by applying insecticide in sewer manholes. <br />The use of insecticidal latex coating provides a cost effective manhole treatment that remains <br />effective for several years after application. Due to the specialized materials and equipment required, <br />the City has historically contracted with a private company for this work. <br />Golden Bell Products, Inc. has the sole distribution and application rights for insecticidal latex coating <br />within the state of California. It provides treatment services to the Los Angeles County Sanitation <br />District as well as to approximately 60 other cities and agencies in California, and has been providing <br />this service to the City of Santa Ana for the past six years. Their work has been of high quality with <br />effective cockroach control continuing well beyond the two-year warranty period.
