The Chamber board respects the City Council's right to make its own decision
as to the important position of city manager and offers the board's insights below merely to assist the
Council in making this important decision_
For decades in his previous role as chief of the police department and now as city manager, Mr.
Walters has earned a long- standing reputation as a supporter and defender of the local business
community, as evidenced by years of interaction with the Chamber of Commerce and its member
businesses.
Upon his appointment as acting city manager, Mr. Walters and his staff sought to strengthen the
relationship between City Hall and the Chamber, through in- person meetings with our executives and
through attendance at many of our Chamber events.
We have found in Mr. Walters a willingness to listen to the concerns of the business community, and
to support changes designed to make the city more business - friendly and economically vibrant. He
has frequently appeared in person before our board of directors to update them on developments in
the city budgeting and regulatory processes. He has made the city's economic development team
available for regular monthly meetings with our Chamber staff. And he has been instrumental in
planning future events to be presented jointly with the Chamber.
Based on his successful public record as a top municipal executive, Paul Walters represents the kind
of no- nonsense leadership that this city must have as it moves forward.
Ran y arth, oard Chairman
r
-,
. ` l f
David Elliott, President/CEO
