90A <br />90B <br />CITY MANAGER'S COMMENTS <br />Interim City Manager O'Rourke thanked the Mayor and City Council for <br />opportunity to work in Santa Ana for next six to nine months; City is a <br />special place and honored to be part of the team. <br />CITY COUNCILMEMBER COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Martinez: <br />• Welcomed Interim City Manager O'Rourke and look forward to working <br />with him; <br />• Acting Police Chief Rojas provided brief presentation of Gun-Buy-Back <br />program that is set for Saturday, February 23rd; <br />• Invited all to attend the Payan Ex workout sessions held on Mondays, <br />Wednesdays, and Fridays at 5:15 a.m. in the Artist Village; and <br />• Spoke in honor of her deceased mother's birthday and legacy left <br />behind. <br />Councilmember Sarmiento: <br />• Acting Police Chief Rojas provided a brief update on the morning's <br />shooting that took the life of four people including killer; Gun-Buy-Back <br />program had been discussed at the heels of the Newtown, Connecticut <br />mass murder incident in November, 2012; opined that any weapon off <br />the street may save a life; take note and respect the 2nd Amendment, <br />but believe that society different when language drafted; and <br />• Thanked and welcomed Interim City Manager. <br />Councilmember Amezcua: <br />• Welcomed Interim City Manager O'Rourke <br />• Support Gun-Buy-Back program that will keep our City safe; and <br />• Thanked outgoing commissioners that served under Councilmember <br />Bustamante and welcomed newly appointed commissioners <br />representing Ward 3. <br />Councilmember Reyna: <br />• Congratulated Interim Kevin O'Rourke; pleased with bilingual skill and <br />experience he brings to the City; <br />• Attended the California Youth in Government event in Sacramento <br />over the weekend; Santa Ana had 20 delegates and represented the <br />City well; youth has proposed and had two significant bills approved by <br />the Governor in the past; <br />• Pleased that City will be naming a street after Coach Hill; <br />• Noted that Vietnamese immigrants have had significant struggles and <br />sacrifices in coming to America to provide better life for their family; <br />and <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 14 FEBRUARY 19, 2013 <br />1 0A-14
