Commissioner Rosas inquired if owners were aware of the historic significance at the time <br />of the purchase. Associate Planner Soboleske confirmed information. <br />Commissioner Garcia inquired as to how many times could the applicant submit a de-listing <br />or removal before accepted. Assistant City Attorney Ryan Hodge provided information. <br />The public hearing was opened. <br />' Written communications in opposition to the removal of the Maharajah House (Landmark) <br />from the Santa Ana Register of Historical Properties were received and distributed to the <br />Commission: Resident Ann Salisbury, Resident Sherri L. Honer, and business owner Tom <br />Lutz. <br />Public speakers: <br />Resident Eric Alderete spoke in support of the staff recommendation to deny the request <br />for removal from the historic register. <br />Julie Humphreys spoke in support of the staff recommendation to deny the request for <br />removal from the historic register. <br />Phil Chinn spoke in support of the staff recommendation to deny the request for removal <br />from the historic register. <br />Janelle McLoughlin spoke in support of the staff recommendation to deny the request for <br />removal from the historic register. <br />' Maxine Schmidt, on behalf of Santa Ana Preservation Historical Society (SAHPS) spoke in <br />support of the staff recommendation to deny the request for removal from the historic <br />register. <br />Alan Lawson, associate board member of SAHPS, spoke in support of the staff <br />recommendation to deny the request for removal from the historic register. <br />Alex Hart, spoke in support of the staff recommendation to deny the request for removal <br />from the historic register. <br />Tim Rush, Wilshire Square resident spoke in support of the staff recommendation to deny <br />the request for removal from the historic register. <br />Executive Director Trevino recommended continuance of the public hearing due to the fact <br />that the property owners were not able to attend the meeting and had requested a <br />continuance. <br />Chairman Schaefer asked staff: to investigate if there were any other properties in the <br />United States or western United States that were built by or lived in by an Indian Maharajah <br />~ and stressed that the "Moderne" architecture should be highlighted. <br />
